Batman & Robin

Just like the above, the

Cypress Creek Family YMCA and the Met Family Fitness Center fit together to create an out-of-this-world tennis combo for kids who have never held a racquet and for those advanced beginners and intermediates who want to take their game to the next level!

The YMCA located at 19915 SH 249, Houston, Texas has four year-round indoor tennis courts!  Not "for real" courts, but taped off 27' x 18' short courts.  It's the perfect environment for non-stop fun for the beginner and advanced beginner group lessons.

The menu introduces beginning skills on the tennis court Monday and Thursday nights; for example; striking, catching and throwing the ball, movement, and balance.  Basic strokes are taught and practiced through various games such as Beach Ball Ground Strokes, Serve Shoot-Out, the Funky Monkey, and Micro Tennis (a non-traditional form of competitive singles play.)  Who would ever imagine making a "Bean Burrito" or wearing "Ear Muffs" on the court?  We do, and the kids love the games!

Advanced Beginners who are still working on stroke form and who are striving to enter Junior Team Tennis (NWYTA) will learn how to play doubles and singles as well as getting a grip on consistency and strategy on Tuesday and Wednesday nights with a much bigger court.

I suppose you might be wondering why we haven't broken any windows or shot holes through the ceiling panels.  Well, it's because we use pressureless tennis balls!

Ordered to perfection, my team of coaches and I will energize your children and give them a life-time experience.

"Survive the Heat" summer tennis camps - an out-of the-ordinary kind of camp challenge at the Met Family Fitness Center offers 4 days and 18 grueling hours of far-out hair-raising drills for beginners, advanced beginners, and intermediate players during the summer months.  Tribal Council has decreed the candidates shall survive in tribes formulated by skill level or age.

Besides tennis and swimming, a woven bag from Borneo containing a daily challenge is hoisted up into the trees.  Kids pull down the tree mail and read something like this - can you decipher the code?

Pieces of eight will make you drool

if you don't get lost in the depths of the pool.

First the map you read, and the breath you hold

should you ever even hope to see the color of gold!

With fully trained and responsible high school varsity tennis players and my assistant director, Grace Borne, you won't find anything comparable in the area.  Before camp each year our counselors learn new drills, practice feeding balls, and learn different ways of court discipline and encouragement so they will build confidence in your player as a person of worth.

We are survivors, so don't shrink back!  Make your alliance with us!
